Both champions went on to win the tourneys. He was also involved in the Tourney for Joffrey Baratheon's name day, where he defeated Thoros of Myr in the melee with a common mace, after the red priest's flaming sword had gone out.

He traveled north with his youngest son, when Waymar decided to join the Night's Watch. During the trip the two stayed over at Winterfell, where they were welcomed by Eddard Stark. Yohn participated in a hunt whilst there, and sparred with Eddard and Ser Rodrik Cassel. He successfully beat both.
