Though mayhaps this was a blessing. Had he lived he would have grown up to be a Frey.
— Wyman Manderly

Walder Frey is the eldest son, but youngest child, of Merrett Frey and Mariya Darry. He is fostered by House Stark, before going on to serve as a squire to Ramsay Bolton. He is called Little Walder because he is 52 days younger than his cousin Big Walder Frey, although Little Walder is the physically taller of the two. He is killed in 300AC at Winterfell.

Appearances and Character[]

Books[]

A Clash of Kings[]

He is sent to Winterfell as a ward, alongside his cousin Big Walder Frey. When there, he quickly befriends Rickon Stark, though he frequently ignores Bran Stark, Meera Reed and Jojen Reed. He enjoys playing, and often winning, a game called Lord of the Crossing.

The Freys are taken captive by Theon Greyjoy when he takes Winterfell. One Frey volunteers to join his crew that hunt for Bran, Rickon, Meera, Jojen, Osha and Hodor, though Theon does not note which one. They are taken to the Dreadfort after Ramsay sacks Winterfell.

A Dance with Dragons[]

Little Walder is found dead in the snow outside Winterfell. Big Walder says he was looking for a White Harbor knight who owed him coin, though Hosteen Frey accuses Lord Wyman Manderly of ordering the acts. This accusation leads to a confrontation between the two Houses.
