Vaes Tolorro, meaning the City of Bones in Dothraki, is a an abandoned settlement within the Red Waste. The city is discovered by the khalasar of Daenerys Targaryen, and its original name is unknown.
Location[]
To the south of the city, the Red Waste continues until one reaches a barren shore and the edge of an ocean. This land is uninhabited, though the skeleton of a dragon can be found here. To the southwest, lie Vaes Orvik and Vaes Shirosi, two more abandoned cities of Qaathi origin. To the southeast, lies an inhabited city, Qarth.
Layout[]
The city has large white walls encircling it, though these are now cracked and crumbling. There are also wall towers. The city gates have been left broken.
The city is a maze of narrow, crooked alleys. The buildings have been built close together, with white chalky facades, and windowless houses. Some of the houses have fallen into rubble, whilst others seem damaged by fire. The remnants of a palace stand before the square. A marble plinth stands at the crossroads of six alleys, though it is empty. Daenerys speculates that the Dothraki have visited the city, and taken the statue back with them to Vaes Dothrak.

A Clash of Kings[]
Whilst crossing the Red Waste, the outriders of Daenerys Targaryen's khalasar discover the abandoned city. They make camp within the walls, allowing them respite, and a chance to recover from their wearisome journey. With the city, they find fruit trees growing in abandoned houses, and a well of clean, pure water. They also find remnants of the dead, including bones and skeletons. Irri and Jhiqui claim the city to be cursed.
Whilst within the city, Daenerys dispatches her bloodriders out on individual missions, to scour the local area for signs of life. Rakharo and Aggo return having found nothing. Jhogo returns in the company of Pyat Pree, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, and Quaithe, having come across the inhabited city of Qarth. Soon after, the khalasar departs Vaes Tolorro, aiming for the city of Qarth.
Later, after deciding to leave Qarth, Daenerys briefly considers returning to Vaes Tolorro and settling the city, however she decides that the journey would be too difficult.
