Old Flint swears allegiance to Stannis Baratheon when the king marches from Castle Black to secure the support of the northern mountain clans. He provides support when Stannis defeats Asha Greyjoy by Deepwood Motte. His sons join Stannis on his march to Winterfell, but Torghen is too old and remains behind.
Torghen later journeys to Castle Black for the wedding of Alys Karstark and Sigorn of Thenn. He enjoys the southern wine at the feast. He brings five fighting men and a wet nurse. Torghen and Brandon Norrey accompany Jon Snow to the top of the Wall. He is wary of Jon's plan to settle wildlings in the Gift.
