The She-Wolves (sometimes called The She-Wolves of Winterfell) is the working title of the fourth Song of Ice and Fire novella. It was originally scheduled for publication in 2013 as part of the Dangerous Women anthology, edited by George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois, but later removed in favor of The Princess and the Queen.

Plot introduction[]

The events of The She-Wolves are expected to take place some time after the events of The Mystery Knight, roughly eight and a half decades prior to the events of A Game of Thrones.

Though officially at peace, the Seven Kingdoms are troubled by various minor crises under the reign of King Aerys I Targaryen. The ironborn are raiding the west coast of Westeros, hitting the North particularly hard. Lord Beron Stark has sent out a call for aid and knights and freeriders from across the continent are responding. Among them are Dunk and Egg.

Editions[]

The She-Wolves was originally scheduled for publication in Dangerous Women in early 2013, but was later pulled in favor of The Princess and the Queen, a section cut from The World of Ice and Fire. The She-Wolves will appear instead in a different venue later on. It was originally scheduled to also be printed as part of The Tales of Dunk and Egg, Volume One, due for publication in 2014, but it is uncertain if this will now happen.
