Ser Stevron Frey was an anointed knight of House Frey and the first heir of Lord Walder Frey. He was Walder's oldest son, and his mother was Lord Frey's first wife, Perra Royce. Stevron had four children by three wives, and was already a great-grandfather at the time of his death, having been a teen when his first two sons were born.

History[]

Stevron is described as being in his sixties and having a weasely look, like his father. As Lord Walder Frey's eldest son and heir apparent, he has been bred and prepared to inherit the The Twins for over forty years, with a large emphasis put on serving his family.

Books[]

A Game of Thrones[]

Stevron is first mentioned as being summoned with his father, Lord Walder Frey, to swear fealty to the new king, Joffrey, in King's Landing. Stevron parleys with Robb Stark outside the walls of the Twins after Robb Stark marches his army South, looking for a crossing. He shows courtesy and deference to Lady Stark, and after an agreement is reached with Walder Frey, Stevron marches south with Robb's army. He takes part in the war council at Riverrun, offering cautious and conservative advice to Robb, suggesting that they allow the Baratheons and Lannisters weaken each other in their battle of the Iron Throne, whilst their army waits. His suggestion to ransom the captive Jaime Lannister back to Tywin Lannister is met by indignation by the Northmen, who crown Robb King of the North instead.

A Clash of Kings[]

Unlike his father, Stevron is so trusted by the Starks and Tullys that Catelyn suggests Stevron should be sent as an envoy to Balon Greyjoy. Robb sends Theon Greyjoy instead (against his mother's advice) to disastrous results. The loyal Ser Stevron accompanies Robb into The Westerlands and personally leads the Frey armies into battle. He is wounded at the Battle of Oxcross and dies in his tent three days later, leaving his eldest son, Ser Ryman Frey, as heir to the Twins. This leads to some suspicion over the circumstances of his death.

A Storm of Swords[]

After breaks his marriage pact with Lord Walder Frey, Catelyn again speaks to Ser Stevron's good nature by suggesting that, had he not died, he could have made amends with his father. Robb laments Stevron's death, as he as a rare amiable and loyal member of the Frey host.
