Rickon Stark is the youngest child of Eddard and Catelyn Stark. He is the younger brother of Robb Stark, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark and Bran Stark. He also has an older half-brother named Jon Snow. His direwolf is called Shaggydog.

Rickon is a young child that favours his mother's appearance. He has long unruly hair as he refused to have it cut after his mother's departure. He is naturally aggressive and strong willed.

Rickon is in attendance for the arrival of the royal retinue when King Robert Baratheon visits Winterfell. He is the first child to enter the Great Hall for the feast. On his way to the table he gets distracted by his half brother, Jon Snow. Robb says that Rickon doesn't understand whats happening after their father heads south and his mother only stays with Bran, so he just follows him around all day.
The day that Tyrion Lannister returns to Winterfell, Bran jealously watches Rickon playing with Shaggydog, Grey Wind, and Summer from his tower window. Rickon is the last to call off his wolf when the three attack Tyrion in the great hall.
