King Mern IX Gardener was a member of House Gardener, and the last King of the Reach.
History[]
During Aegon Targaryen's invasion of Westeros, Mern and King Loren I Lannister of the Rock joined forces, forming the largest army in the history of Westeros. However, this army was destroyed at the Field of Fire, just when they were about to win. The Targaryen army was crippled, but then Aegon and his sister-wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, took to the air on their dragons; Meraxes, Vhagar, and Balerion the Black Dread. 14,000 Lannister-Gardener men were killed in the battle, while many others died of their wounds later on. In addition to these fourteen thousand, Mern and his sons were burnt alive as well.
