Maegor Targaryen was the only child of Aerion Targaryen and Daenora Targaryen.[1]

Born in 232 AC, Maegor was given his name by his father Aerion, who died later that same year after drinking wildfire.[2]
After the death of his grandfather, King Maekar I Targaryen, Maegor was one of the claimants in the Great Council of 233 AC. However, few vouched for him, many believing he would be as mad as his father was. Maegor's uncle, Aegon, was chosen instead.[2]
