King of Mountain and Vale was the title held by the rulers of the Vale of Arryn before the War of Conquest. It refers to the Vale proper as well as the Mountains of the Moon.

History[]

The title was initially founded by Ser Artys Arryn, a young Andal warlord, who defeated the last Bronze King, Robar II Royce, in the Battle of Seven Stars. This victory secured Arryn dominion of the Vale, which was renamed the Vale of Arryn. The Falcon Crown was subsequently passed down from Arryn to Arryn.

Gulltown grew to be one of the largest cities in Westeros under the Arryn rule. King Roland I Arryn began construction on the Eyrie, which became the Arryn seat. Hugh and Hugo Arryn added Pebble and the Paps to the Arryn kingdom respectively. King Alester II Arryn married Arwen Upcliff, adding the Witch Isle to the kingdom. In the War Across the Water, the Arryns warred with the kings of House Stark for a thousand years.

The Arryns have also warred with the Riverlands on a number of occasions. King Roland II Arryn was beheaded by King Tristifer IV Mudd. The Bloody Gate protected the Vale from three attacks by Halleck Hoare, King of the Isles and the Rivers.

The last King of Mountain and Vale was Ronnel Arryn, a boy king whose regent was Sharra Arryn, his mother. She eventually bent the knee to Visenya Targaryen, the sister of King Aegon I Targaryen, when she flew on her dragon straight to the Eyrie, bypassing the Arryn army.
