House Vance from Wayfarer's Rest is one of the two largest branches of House Vance. The other large branch is House Vance of Atranta. House Smallwood are their vassals.
History[]
House Vance were amongst the petty kings in The Riverlands before they were taken over by House Durrandon. They then rose up alongside House Tully against Iron King Harren Hoare in favour of King Aegon I Targaryen during the War of Conquest.

The Lord of Wayfarer's Rest is sent to the Golden Tooth with Lord Clement Piper upon the orders of Ser Edmure Tully. After the news of Ser Gregor Clegane rampaging through the Riverlands Ser Karyl Vance is sent to King's Landing to put forward a case for aid to be sent. Ser Karyl becomes Lord of Wayfarer's Rest when Lord Vance dies in the Battle of the Golden Tooth. Karyl joins Ser Marq Piper in raiding the armies of House Lannister that are besieging Riverrun. Karyl is amongst the riverlords who declare Robb Stark as King in the North.
A Feast for Crows[]
Karyl Vance and Lord Norbert Vance are both pardoned by king Tommen I Baratheon, and both provide troops for the second siege of Riverrun. Both Karyl and Norbert sit on the war councils of Ser Jaime Lannister. Karyl advises Jaime to head to Raventree Hall to relieve the siege fought between Lord Tytos Blackwood and Lord Jonos Bracken.
