House Reed is a noble house sworn to House Stark and are one of the principal families of The North. Their seat is Greywater Watch and they hold dominion over all the lands of The Neck. The current head of House Reed is Lord Howland Reed. His heir is his second born child, Jojen Reed. Their sigil has a black lizard-lion on a green background.

History[]

House Reed can claim descent from the First Men back before the Andal Invasion. They populated the Neck as their seat because it was a strong defensive position. House Reed swore fealty to the Starks of Winterfell thousands of years before, when they were still Kings in the North.

A young crannogman from House Reed, possibly Lord Howland, decided to explore out of the neck, travelling south to the Isle of Faces and then on to Harrenhal, where the Tourney of Harrenhal was underway. This crannogman met Brandon Stark, Eddard Stark, Lyanna Stark and Benjen Stark, who helped avenge his honour.

Howland Reed then joined Eddard during Robert's Rebellion as one of his personal defenders. He followed Eddard to the Tower of Joy, where he was the only other survivor. Eddard said that Howland Reed saved his life when he confronted Ser Arthur Dayne.

He plans to use the crannogmen to bolster his army and retake Moat Cailin from the Ironborn. Unfortunately Robb dies at the Red Wedding and his plan never comes to pass.

A Dance with Dragons[]

Meera and Jojen accompany the young Bran Stark and Hodor in his journey north of The Wall. Jojen is a greenseer that has predicted what has to happen and the outcome for him, his sister and their companions.

Lord Roose Bolton does not trust the crannogmen, even though they haven't officially aligned with either him or King Stannis Baratheon. He travels along the Neck causeway in a wagon with a decoy dressed up in his armour.
