A Song of Ice and Fire Wiki
I have slain a giant, boy. Why should I fear some flea-ridden Northman who paints one on his shield?
— Ser Godry Farring to Jon Snow

Ser Godry Farring, also known as Godry the Giantslayer, is an anointed knight of House Farring, and is a cousin of Ser Gilbert Farring. He is a staunch supporter of Stannis Baratheon.

Appearance and Character[]

Godry is a tall man who possesses a booming voice. He is broad shouldered and well muscled. Asha Greyjoy believes him to be arrogant and vain, with a hunger for glory. She also considers him to be deaf to caution, and contemptuous of those he considers below his station.

Books[]

A Storm of Swords[]

Godry participates in the Battle beneath the Wall, where he earns his nickname by chasing after a fleeing giant and putting his lance through its back. Afterwards, he hacks off the creatures head.

A Dance with Dragons[]

Godry is antagonistic towards Jon Snow, the new Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, in the training yard of Castle Black, where he tries to goad Jon into a fight. After Jon refuses, Godry asserts that it is likely because he is scared of him. He is later present for the confrontation between Jon and Janos Slynt, laughing after Janos refuses Jon's orders.

Godry plays an important role in the execution of Mance Rayder, who was actually Rattleshirt, by riding 'Mance' to the cage in which he will be confined. He participates in the war councils of Stannis, where he claims to not be scared of the men of House Umber, who have split their allegiances. Jon holds reservations that Stannis may try to marry Val to one of Godry Farring, Richard Horpe or Justin Massey.

Godry is amongst the men who travel with Stannis through the Northern mountains to Deepwood Motte, which is being held by Asha Greyjoy. He leads the vanguard on Stannis' subsequent march to Winterfell, but they are passed by swifter Northmen. Due to the absence of Melisandre, Godry leads the devotions to R'hllor in front of the Baratheon fires. Godry's piety leads to him suggesting that an unbeliever be sacrificed so that the blizzard may clear.
