Elysar served as a Grand Maester during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.

Elysar was sharp-tongued, waspish, and never had a thought he didn't share.
History[]
After the death of Grand Maester Benifer in 60 AC, Elysar was chosen to serve as the new Grand Maester. He was twenty years younger than Benifer when he had first been chosen for the post. Due to his opinionated nature, some believed that he was chosen so that Oldtown could be rid of him.
Benifer and Septon Barth were present when Princess Saera Targaryen was brought before her parents, King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne, who confronted her about her actions.
Elysar passed away in 97 AC, and was succeeded to the post by Allar.
