Edric Storm is the bastard son of King Robert I Baratheon and Delena Florent, the cousin of Selyse Florent.

Appearance[]

Edric is a sturdily attractive youth, with jet-black hair and deep blue eyes. He resembles his father, King Robert I, and has the characteristic hair, eyes, jaw, and cheekbones of House Baratheon.[1] Edric also has the large ears common to House Florent.[2][3]

Edric is charming and courteous, but also fierce and proud.[1][3] In this manner, Davos Seaworth compares Edric to both Robert and the king's youngest brother, Renly.[4]

History[]

Edric was conceived by Robert and Delena in the wedding knight of Robert's younger brother, Stannis Baratheon, who was marrying Delena's cousin, Selyse Florent. Stannis saw this as an insult to his honor, so he sent Edric to Storm's End to foster with the boy's other uncle, Renly Baratheon.[5] As Delena was a noblewoman, Edric was acknowledged by his father,[6][2] though he was raised in relative comfort at Storm's End under the guardianship of Ser Cortnay Penrose, Renly's castellan, who is fond of the boy.[7] Edric was educated by maesters, castellans, and masters-at-arms.[3]

Melisandre pressures Stannis to burn Edric, as she believes that his king's blood will awaken dragons of stone that will aid him. Ser Davos Seaworth pressures Stannis to do the opposite and spare him. Edric's blood is leeched and is used in a ritual to curse three rival kings, Joffrey, Robb Stark and Balon Greyjoy. The three kings all subsequently perish.

Concerned that Stannis is preparing to burn Edric, Ser Davos, aided by Maester Pylos and some loyal members of the king's men, ship him out to the Free Cities aboard the Mad Prendos. Edric desires to say goodbye to Stannis and Shireen, but Davos insists that there is no time to do so.
