King Durran, remembered as Durran Godsgrief, was the legendary founder of House Durrandon and the Kingdom of the Storm during the Age of Heroes. He was the builder of Storm's End.
History[]
Myth claims that Durran married Elenei, the goddess of the wind. His father, the god of the sea, frowned upon this union, but regardless, Durran and Elenei wed. The god destroyed Durran's keep on his wedding night, killing the entirety of his family and guests. However, Elenei protected him, and thus Durran survived. Durran declared war on the gods in his rage, who then would send massive, destructive storms upon his lands. The gods destroyed every castle that he built.
The seventh castle he had built still stands today. This castle being Storm's End, which resisted the storms of Shipbreaker Bay. Some claim that it stood because the Children of the Forest helped Durran build it; others say that a young Bran the Builder advised Durran on the construction of the castle.
The myth then claims that Durran ruled for a thousand years, gaining him the nickname of "The King of a Thousand Years". Maesters deny this of course, and Archmaester Glaive proposed that this was in fact a line of several kings all bearing the same name.
Durran conquered the Rainwood, but most of it was given back to the Children by his son and successor, Durran the Devout.
