Khal Drogo was a Dothraki warlord and chieftain. He remained undefeated in battle even to his death. He was married to Daenerys Targaryen as a way for her brother Viserys to secure an alliance. Daenerys smothers Drogo to death due to his vegetable state that occurred shortly before the stillbirth of their child, Rhaego.

Appearance and Character[]

Like most Dothraki, Drogo has copper-colored skin, black hair, and black eyes. He is tall and muscular, and moves gracefully. He has a long, drooping mustache and a long braid hung with tiny bells that hangs down to his thighs, symbolizing his status among the Dothraki as an undefeated warlord.

Drogo's favorite horse is an unnamed lean red stallion, as it is not a Dothraki custom to give individual names to animals.

History[]

Drogo was saved by Cohollo in his youth when fighting some sellswords.

A Game of Thrones[]

Drogo is viewed by Illyrio Mopatis and Viserys Targaryen as a potential husband for Daenerys, mainly as Viserys wanted to secure the support of the undefeated Khal and his large khalasar for a conflict in Westeros. Drogo hosts a celebration at his manse in Pentos, which Illyrio and Viserys use as an opportunity to introduce Drogo to Daenerys.

Drogo marries Daenerys outside the walls of Pentos, as is tradition amongst the Dothraki. He gifts her with a horse, another custom of the Dothraki. He then rides with her away and she consents to him taking her virginity.

During their ride to Vaes Dothrak, Drogo seems distant to Daenerys during the days and evenings, though he will always come to her bed after she has fallen asleep. Daenerys feels pain at these sexual encounters. After receiving a lesson from Doreah, however, she becomes able to enjoy these experiences, and even take some control over them.
