Brus is one of the Queen's men in service to Stannis Baratheon, despite the fact that his cousin, Lord Ralph Buckler, has switched allegiances to support House Baratheon of King's Landing.
When Stannis marches to Castle Black, and then on to Deepwood Motte, Brus remains at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea with Queen Selyse Florent, serving as one of her protectors. When Selyse leaves Eastwatch to travel to the Nightfort, Brus joins her on her journey to Castle Black. He is nervous when he finds out that Wun Wun is a guest of the Night's Watch.
Brus seems to be half-drunk during the wedding of Alys Karstark and Sigorn, and he gives Princess Shireen Baratheon her first dance. Selyse later arranges a betrothal between Brus and the second daughter of Gerrick Kingsblood.
