A Song of Ice and Fire Wiki

Lady Argella Durrandon was the last monarch of the Kingdom of the Storm under the Durrandon dynasty, briefly ruling as Storm Queen after her father Argilac's death at the Last Storm. She then married Orys Baratheon, making the Durrandon line officially extinct after her death. This also shaped the half-Andal, half-Valyrian family, House Baratheon.

History[]

Argella was born at Storm's End, the seat of House Durrandon and capital of the Kingdom of the Storm, the precursor to the modern administrative region of the Stormlands. During the reign of her father, Argilac the Arrogant, the Kingdom of the Isles and the Rivers ruled by House Hoare was more of a threat than ever before. Argilac sought to use House Targaryen as a shield by marrying Argella off to Lord Aegon Targaryen. However, Aegon made a different proposal: to marry Argella to his right-hand-man and rumored bastard half-brother, Orys Baratheon. Infuriated, Argilac cut off the hands of Aegon's envoy and sent them back to him in a box. This sparked Aegon's intentions to conquer Westeros. Aegon landed at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush, where King's Landing stands today, and so the invasion began.

At the final battle of the conquest of the Durrandon lands, known as the Last Storm, King Argilac was slain by Orys. After Argella and the rest at Storm's End heard about this, she was crowned the new Storm Queen, being the only Durrandon left. She didn't rule long enough to be considered a ruler, though, as when the Targaryen-Baratheon host approached near Storm's End, they surrended instantly, as most of the Durrandon army had been wiped out at the Last Storm, and all that remained was the small Storm's End garrison that stayed behind. This was against Argella's will, as she had ordered that the Storm's End garrison would fight to the last man. The men-at-arms at Storm's End revolted and captured Argella, delivering her to Orys Baratheon's war camp, gagged, chained and naked. Orys removed the chains with his own hands, cloaked her, and fed her. He spoke gently and politely to her, telling her about her father's courage in battle and in death.

Orys would marry Argella and become the Lord of Storm's End and Lord Paramount of the Stormlands, along with his position as Aegon's Hand.

She had at least two sons with Orys, one of them being Davos Baratheon.
