Alekyne Florent is the only son of Lord Alester Florent and the heir to Brightwater Keep. He has two sisters, Melessa and Rhea Florent.

Alekyne's father is attainted by King Joffrey I Baratheon for siding with Stannis Baratheon in the War of the Five Kings. Brightwater Keep is granted to Ser Garlan Tyrell.
Stannis has Alekyne's father burned alive for treason, on the suggestion of Melisandre and Alekyne's uncle, Axell Florent. This makes Alekyne the disputed Lord of Brightwater Keep.
